Dear Students & Families of 2023/24 6th Grade Band Students,
Welcome to the Pulaski Community Middle School Band Program! We are excited to meet the next class of students beginning their journeys in the performing musical arts! Instrument selection is paramount to success and enjoyment in band so we developed a specific process to help students find their best fit! Please read through the steps detailed below and direct all questions to Colleen Marler, the head 6th grade band director.

BEGINNING BAND MEETING MONDAY, MARCH 6 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the PCMS AUDITORIUM
2023-2024 Band Instrument Selection Process:
Step 1: OPTIONAL - Follow the web address below to access valuable educational information about what to expect when joining band. Parents, if you are new to band, please participate in this process with your child. BE PART OF THE MUSIC
Step 2: Students will try mouthpieces with the PCMS Band directors in their 5th grade General Music class during the week of March 13-16. If your student misses their chance to try mouthpieces, please contact Colleen Marler to schedule an individual time at PCMS on Monday, March 20 or Tuesday, March 21.
Step 3: After the instrument fittings, Mrs. Marler will email the #1 and #2 instrument recommendations to students and families. From those recommendations, students can make their official selection. Information about purchasing or renting instruments will be provided at the parent meeting and in further communications.
Step 4: Respond to Mrs. Marler with your student’s instrument choice and the retailer you will be renting from or purchasing through.
PERCUSSION: Percussion is the only section of the band that is audition-only. In order to join the percussion section, students must attend an audition. Piano experience is preferred. Please use the link below to sign-up for an audition on either March 20 or 21. PERCUSSION AUDITION SIGN-UP
