Grade 7 Health Class Talks about Personal Safety

Grade 7 Health Class Talks about Personal Safety

Dear 7th Grade Parents/Guardians,

Our School Counseling Team will be in the health classrooms talking about personal safety January 3-6.  The lessons begin with a review from 6th grade, outlining social cruelty types (rumoring, teasing, exclusion, bullying, ganging up).  We will also spend time talking about signs of depression and suicide and empower our students to seek help for themselves and/or others using the acronym ACT - acknowledge, care, tell.  On our final day, we will address keeping themselves, and their reputations, safe online.  We focus on sexting, online predators, sex trafficking, and proper use of apps.

Technology and social media can be wonderful tools if used correctly, in moderation, and monitored by informed adults.  Thank you for spending time reviewing the topics we discussed in health class.  We encourage you to keep those lines of communication open with your student, to have all of their passwords, and to keep tabs on their social media use.

Sincerely,

Carrie Wagner and Nicole Gerth
