PHS names new girls golf coaches

Pulaski High School girls golf will have three new coaches next season. John Heinz is the new head coach. Assistants will be Kimberly Froseth and Taylor Walters, who will co-coach the junior varsity squad.

"I would like to thank Sarah Kohls for her many years of service leading the PHS girls golf team and am thankful for Andy Bock's knowledge and expertise that he shared with our student athletes over the last years,” said PHS athletic director Janel Batten.

Batten is excited by the new coaching staff. “I believe our girls golf program will be in good hands for years to come," she said.

Heinz has worked as a PCSD paraprofessional for 10 years. He’s also driven a bus for the district. Previous coaching experience includes being on the freshman baseball coaching staff for seven years and freshman football staff for six years.

He’s been married to Lori for 30 years and they have four children, Jack, Owen, Lucas and Ella, all of whom are PHS graduates. The Southern Door High School graduate has lived in the Pulaski area for 32 years.

Heinz credits his wife for getting him into golfing when they were first married, and they hit the links regularly when Wisconsin’s weather permits.

“I am super excited about coaching,” Heinz said.

Heinz has earned his commercial driver’s license so he will be able to drive the team to its meets.

Froseth is a PHS English teacher. She has been in Pulaski for five years and prior to that she taught in Manitowoc for eight years. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in English education. She will graduate next month from Western Governors University with a master's degree in educational leadership. She is married to Adam and they have two children, Easton, 8, and Joelle, 6.

“My husband and I started golfing a few years ago just for fun, and I started to truly enjoy the sport and become more competitive with it. I am not new to coaching, but I am new to coaching golf.”

Walters has taught Family and Consumer Sciences Education at PHS for eight years. She is a 2011 PHS graduate and a 2015 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

She and her husband, Zach, have 17-month-old twins, Jax and Gracie.

“My extended family enjoys golfing, even having our own family golf outing each fall,” Walters said. “My husband and I started golfing about five years ago for fun, and we have grown to love and enjoy the sport. I am new to coaching golf, and I am excited for the new experience.”

Heinz is excited to work with the other members of the coaching staff. Heinz said, “We’re all going to learn and grow together and I think that would be an environment for something really positive.” The coaches have been meeting regularly to get to know each other and to plan for next season.
