PHS to stage Sister Act for this year's musical

PHS is performing Sister Act as its 2024 musical. Mother Superior (Maddi Wirtz) has to hide nightclub singer Deloris (Marilyn Koehler) from her mob boss boyfriend Curtis (Brayden Pelot).

Pulaski High School students will perform Sister Act for their annual musical.  

Set in the 1970s, the main character, Deloris, has witnessed a murder and the police have hidden her in a convent, as a nun, to keep her safe from her mob boyfriend, Curtis. Deloris proceeds to upend the quiet lives of the resident sisters. In an effort to keep her out of trouble, they assign Deloris to the convent’s choir, an ensemble that she soon turns into a vibrant act that gains widespread attention.

Staff in charge of the musical are: Director - Amy Tubbs; Music Director - Kathryn  Brown; Assistant Director - Ryan Winn; Choreographer - Melissa Welsing; Crew Director - Jaime Meulemans; Sound Director - Bryan Brown; Pit Band Director - Michelle Henslin; and Costumer - Rolean Wernicke.

“Besides being entertaining and fun, Sister Act shows a beautiful story of people from different backgrounds forming relationships and working together. That message is so important for our world,” said director Amy Tubbs.

Music director Kathryn Brown said, “We are excited to focus our energy into the musical in January and February now that the holidays are over. We have a great cast, crew and pit that are hard workers. Audience goers will really enjoy the music written by Alan Menken, who also wrote Newsies, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, and more. They will also love the incredible choreography, acting, scenery, pit, and more.”

Pulaski students in acting roles include: Deloris Van Cartier - Marilyn Koehler; Mother Superior - Maddi Wirtz; Sister Mary Robert - Gwen Rybak; Sister Mary Patrick - Ace Loehlein; Sister Mary Lazarus - Morgan Miskulin; Monsignor O’Hara - Hayden Witte; Curtis (nightclub owner) - Brayden Pelot; Eddie (police officer) - Kaden Brown; TJ (thug at nightclub) - Crosby Willette; Joey (thug at nightclub) - Jacob Willis; Pablo (thug at nightclub) - Dan Augustine; Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours - Talia Busche; Sister Mary Theresa - Madisyn Reed; Michelle (backup singer) - Mady Henslin; Tina (backup singer) - Evie Decker; Ernie (thug at nightclub) - Aiden Winn.

Dancers include: Emma Ahlswede, Lydia Cheslock, Evie Decker, Elizabeth Dornfeld, Leatrice Dyal, Addison Guelig, Mady Henslin, Irys Hopke, Katherine Hurley, Yarelys Martinez, Madisyn Reed and Saige Wirtz.

Nuns include all the dancers plus: Kiley DeNoble, Cali Karcz, Kendall Muraski, Angela Sievert, Miranda Sinkula, Rory Smet and Jenna Trudell.

Ensemble members play various parts: Alekx Cornette, Riley Mommaerts, Samuel Sobiesczyk, Aiden Winn and Gage Younger.
