Stiede wins Herb Kohl Student Scholarship

Pulaski High School senior Trevor Stiede is among 188 statewide winners of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation’s 2019 Student Excellence Scholarship.

The award is part of the Herb Kohl Foundation honoring 304 students, teachers and principals. Awards in the amount of $6,000 are being made to 100 teachers, 16 principals, and their schools, and $10,000 scholarships will be given to 188 graduating high school students.

“I am very proud of Trevor,” said PHS principal Jeremy Pach. “Trevor has done a nice job modeling what it means to be a high-achieving student in both academics and athletics.  Trevor is a high-character student and is a positive role model who continually leaves an inspiring mark on our school culture. Trevor does much to impress me, and I consider him to be the personification of what a high-quality student should be. Trevor is a student who is highly deserving of this scholarship,” Pach added.

Student Excellence Scholarship recipients have demonstrated excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond.

Scholarship recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders, and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools, regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies, the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and the Wisconsin Parents Association.

Award recipients were notified of their awards on Tuesday. Regional recognition luncheons honoring the recipients will be held in a few weeks.

The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, philanthropist and businessman, in 1990. To date, the foundation has awarded $17.8 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students and schools.

“Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future,” Kohl said.
