Kelly Logue returns as PHS soccer coach

Kelly Logue is taking over the head Pulaski High School girls soccer coaching position, a job she previously held from 2000 to 2004 but left to raise her family. In the meantime, she’s taught soccer as part of her job as a physical education teacher at Pulaski Community Middle School and in local rec programs.

She takes over from Clete Gerhartz, who held the position five years and led the team to several trips to the WIAA state tournament.

“We are excited to have Kelly Logue take over as our head girls soccer coach at Pulaski,” said PHS athletic director Janel Batten. “She has been both a head coach and an assistant in the program in prior years and has great perspective and a clear direction to move the program forward.”

Logue, a Mayville native, was a student-athlete at Carroll College, Waukesha, where she played basketball one year and soccer four years while earning an education degree with an emphasis on physical education.

Logue discussed taking the job with her family, husband, Tony, and daughters, Gianna, eighth-grade; Isabella, sixth-grade, and Sophia, fourth grade, to not only make sure they were OK with the time commitment it would take to run the PHS girls soccer program but also the prospect of her daughters having her as a soccer coach in the future as all are involved in local soccer programs. In the end, they agreed she should go for it.

She is excited about assuming the role. “There is a good Pulaski soccer community, so I’ve always kind of been a part of that.” She’ll be coaching student-athletes that she taught in middle school. “To see them at the high school in a different element is really fun.”

She has taught in the PCSD for 19 years.

Logue also formed Team Teddy of Wisconsin in 2015, a non-profit organization that raises money to buy plush toys for children who are suffering from a variety of illnesses.

“It’s neat because a lot of the middle school Team Teddy kids are my soccer girls that are going to be upcoming. And now I see my soccer girls at the high school are interested in Team Teddy so there’s a nice correlation.”

Under Logue's direction, the PHS team made its first WIAA state tournament appearance in 2004. Next season will be the 15-year anniversary of that feat.
